I found a honking big file today at the local nature preserve. Pictured with it are some other relics found there or in my yard recently.

Anyone kniw how old the file, square nails and pedal bell might be? Also, what is the little glass bottle for, drugs?

Cheers,

Mike

Hard to date, but it looks like an old rat-tail file, used to enlarge holes or smooth them. The bottle appears to have been an aerosol of some sort, contents unknown..... Cool finds, thanks for sharing!

The file is 18 inches by the way. I was wondering if it was for metal to help date it by it's intended use. Thanks.

I don't have any idea how to date the file but guess no older than late 1800's.

I need some close up pics of the crotal bell to see if it is an older one.
Any markings? Type of holes and slot, etc.
Other wise guess late 1800's into very early 1900's.

From what I can see of the one square nail look semi-modern, 1900's.
The finish nail is modern and the far left is a bolt, next is a carriage or stove bolt again 1900's.

Not sure the file teeth will still be sharp, but I am thinking of forging a big knife out of it.

Here is the cotal bell. It has petals. I should really clean it, but I'm too lazy.
