I do this when quitting for the day, or when I decide to speedily move to a new chosen spot to swing over...I walk and let my coil hover near the ground, along my path of travel. In water fishing, it's called trolling. I wondered how many others here also use that. It does snag a signal many times. Might as well be using that walking time for something.

I do that...all the time.

If I'm walking over ground that could have a target, and I'm allowed to hunt that ground, I almost always have my coil on the ground when I'm walking back to my car or to a new search location.

I just wish I could turn my DD coil 90 degrees so I didn't have to swing while I walked or hold my metal detector off to my side as I walked.

"or hold my metal detector off to my side"

That is my method, with either a concentric or a DD. I get at least a one-way directional sweep. I don't swing. Maybe I'm not understanding.

Yes, I do that too. Like you mentioned, sometimes you'll even get a couple extra finds, which is always nice. :cool3:

Sometimes I'll just walk at my normal pace while I swing the detector side to side. This is how I hunt normally (and most people, I imagine), except I'm walking at a normal speed, not a slow pace so my sweeps overlap.

Always do it and have found things that way.

Also with my new Steve's detector carbon rods, I can turn the coil 90 degrees and just let it hang down at my side. Not as awkward as before holding it out to my right.

Read many years ago a guy mounted 4 to 6 (not sure) metal detectors on the back of a small trailer towed by his jeep. This was out west. He was only interested in big nuggets. Wired them all into one head phone set.

I think the article went on to day he found one of the largest gold nuggets weighing 2-3 lbs. I may have all of my details mixed up, but I am sure of the part with the trailer and detectors and large nugget.

Then there is this guy on the Florida east coast beaches with his detector bike.
