For many years I've wanted to celebrate with a traditional treat that my Swedish, Norwegian and Danish ancestors would have had.

This year I finally decided to go for it and bought my 1st Kransekake (Wreath Cake) out of NJ.

This treat is also used at weddings where the bride and groom will take the top ring and pull at it. Depending on how many come off is said to fortell how many children they will have.

Merry Christmas / God Jule!

I've never heard of kransekake, but it looks tasty! Your dining room looks festively decorated, too. 🎄

One of my family's special baking traditions is a Swedish cookie recipe, which was passed down to us from my great-grandmother. It uses honey in place of sugar and has a gingerbread-like flavor. We like to make them at Christmastime, rolling out the dough and using cookie cutter shapes like gingerbread men & candy canes. Sometimes we make them at Easter time to celebrate the resurrection, too - using shapes like crosses & circles (to symbolize the stone rolled away from the tomb). This Christmas, other things came up which prevented us from baking our special Swedish cookies, but it's still nice to remember the tradition and anticipate repeating it in the future. Thanks for bringing up a fun topic!
