We had some beautiful weather here in central MT for about a week and a half. Up in the 50s, no wind and soft thawed ground to dig! I had been out of the hobby for a year or 2 but the weather talked me into buying a new machine and get out there and swing! Those first few hunts were great, silver quarter, rings (junk but still cool) and some wheat pennies.... with the weather being as nice as it was I even cut the sleeves off all of my winter long sleeves... with plans to go back to the park I found my silver quarter at.... the weather decided to dump rain and snow for the last week and a half....... frozen ground and grey skies... this is the first day its been mostly sunny so its time to get back out there!!!!! This year I'm going for gold.... and lots of it! Here comes the pull tab count.......

Hope you find your gold! Still too cold to detect the last week or more here, snow and rain. Later this week supposed to be in the low 70's so that will be nice, and I hope to get out a bit.

You guys up in frozen north make me feel guilty not getting out hunting when the temps in Atlanta get below 45. Actually the perfect metal detecting season in Atlanta is really late fall, winter (except maybe 3-4 really cold weeks) and really early spring. No bugs, no stakes, no monster weeds, especially no yellow jackets (really nasty type of wasp which I swear has killer bees DNA). You ever get near their nest in the ground they will attack you and chase you like killer bees. And their sting is about 10x more painful that of a bee or wasp. Several times I have been stung more than 10 times with a close encounter with a yellow jacket. They even crawl inside your clothes to keep stinging you. They are mostly around their nest in early morning and late evening. During the day they are just out foraging and don't present any problem away from their nest.

I did some time in GA. Ft. Benning. All of the above mentioned critters and more. We do have yellow jackets here in MT tho. Nasty critters lol. Chew tobacco takes the sting out pretty effectively lol. I'd love to have your winters up here!! But it's a way of life that while miserable, does pass fairly quick.
