Stretching the equinox truth?

My big concern is the battery on the NOX. Only time will tell just how long the battery will last before it has to be replaced. And the battery is not designed to be user replaceable so what will be the cost to have the factory replace the battery, this is yet to be determined?

As far as hitting on different targets and the speed that it does this is a benefit but the reliability is what is going to help make or break this machine. That is why I question the battery.

I don't get all the concerns about the battery. Everything runs on lithium batteries now. Also there is literally 4 screws and one connector involved in changing the battery. Anyone can change it when the time comes. If properly cared for the battery should last for years. This should be a non issue.

I work in the battery field for some thirty years so I am more aware of battery problems. Actually lithium batteries can have sever failure rates especially when first designed for a product. Remember the Samsung Gallaxy 7 phone a couple of years ago that they had to recall all of the phones and go back to the old model? Right now all of the battery manufactures are trying different chemical make ups for the Lithium style batteries in order to get better performance and sometimes they have more failure rates. That is why I said only time will tell.

As I said, my understanding was that the battery was not designed to be field replaceable. If it is only 4 screws and some type of seal that can be field replaced in order to keep the water resistance, then that is great.

A member on the other popular detecting forum posted the how to with photos of everything. Im sure you could do a search and find the thread. He said it was a 3 minute job. 4 screws hold bottom of case on. 1 screw inside holds battery seal down. There is 2 seals total and 5 screws. Then slide out and unplug battery. Only issue I could see is if seal is damaged and ML doesn't offer seal kit or ML or battery dealers don't offer battery for sale to public. As long as seals are lubricated and not damaged when installing new battery a person should be fine.

ML may have a proprietary battery, we don't know. You may have to replace the seal when the handle is opened, we don't know.
I am sure that they are saying factory service to assure that it remains waterproof. If you never take it into the water and you can get the parts, you will be able to do it for yourself.

RNB will make batteries for the equinox just like they already do for nearly every make and model of detector on the market. It will probably be better than the stock battery as well. From the looks of it the battery compartment is sealed off from the console any way so the only area that could possibly get wet is the battery if the seals fail. That is speculation on my part so we will have to see. Personally I am not worried about the battery or water proofing but I could see how users that primarily hunt under water might be.
