Found Lady Liberty at 10" at a park here in Chicago. Sounded faint and no VDIs but repeatable. A semi-Key date 1895 S Barber half with a bullet indent. A couple of feet away, I found an old looking bullet as well. I'm pretty sure, it's not the bullet that hit this coin but pretty cool to imagine it. 😁

THAT is interesting. Way cool. Barber halves aren't easy to find. Especially one with such character!

Great find! It's interesting that they would shoot a half dollar at the turn of the century. The person was not only wealthy, they were a good shot to boot! Bank robbers?

Yeah, this was a lot of money back then. Another person mentioned that it could've been Annie Oakley who shot this coin while touring with the Buffalo Bill's Wild West show in Chicago during the World's Fair. Doubtful though, since this is a 1895 coin, and the world's fair was in 1893 which ran for only 6-months. Unless they stayed longer and performed around Chicago 🤷🏽!♂️. Who knows for sure but yeah, this person was a great shot.

Blue I think your coin is an 1895. Not a 1985. Outstanding find. I heard about guys shooting pennies when I was growing up but no one had enough money to shoot a half dollar.

Wow, another shot silver! Mine was worn to heck, but your Barber looks like it has good details. Still a great find, though.

I also dug a 1907 barber half with a bullet dent. I used to have a picture in an old phone and can't find it. I was telling a friend about detecting and he asked if I had the machine in the suv. Had it, my first detector, Bounty Hunter Discovery. We were in his yard. I said we like to check around the largest trees and walked to the huge pine in the middle of an acre and half yard. Just showing him detecting. Dug two targets of aluminum siding the the 3rd. High sound and two inches deep. Nice shiny 1907 half. Bullet dent looked like a 22 cal.
I think it was a contest of shooting skills. Hit the silver dollar ( or half ) and win it! My friend kept the coin. His yard so he wins.

I think your off by 100 years!

Its funny I heard my son tell his sister just yesterday... "Did you know Dad graduated from high school back in the 19 hundreds???"

Heck of a find! Conjurs up images of the Wild West Show; the coin getting tossed up in the air, the sharpshooter draws and fires, and the crowd is wowed. Or just a target shootin' match between friends...after hearing of such spectacular showmanship. Yes Sir; heck of a find!

Yep, 50 cents in 1895 would’ve been about 15 bucks in today’s value.
May’ve been wealthy, but not very bright, as they shot a semi-key date!

Still cool find, congrats.
