I was given a Minelab xTerra 705 but the batteries were left in it and now it doesn’t start up. I am assuming there may be corrosion on the terminals although I don’t see any.
is there a product that can be sprayed into the battery compartment that might improve the situation?

If it isn't obvious corrosion on the contact terminals, then it's the ground wire from the battery pack to the main board inside that has rotted. Minelab uses a wire that IMO is too fine, and it doesn't take much corrosion to break the connection.

The worst thing about the rotted wire scenario is that you can't just strip it back and re-solder it. If it's bad enough for the wire to break, then the whole wire inside the insulation is too corroded to take solder. And taking the end that plugs into the main board apart is nearly impossible. I fixed the one I did by replacing the wires with bell wire, and I just soldered it at both ends. It will never fail like that again.
