I have hunted multiple civil war sites around Atlanta this year. One area around Peachtree creek and one on the Chattahoochee river banks. Both areas are in flood plains. Both are well documented civil war sites. One a major battle and one a staging area for the Union Army.
I am not having much luck finding civil war relics. But I am finding match box cars over 10" deep.
so my question is... Is it futile hunting for CW relics in a flood plain. I am now thinking in these flood plains the relics most likely covered in feet of sand, soil and silt instead of inches. I see many relic hunter finding bullets 6-8" deep away from rivers and creeks in other areas of the country less developed than Atlanta. Of course the problem in North Atlanta, the few areas for CW relics outside national CW parks are flood plains. Private permissions seem to be hard to come by in this suburban area.
