So my DFX died about 3 years ago. I'd bought it used in 2008, found plenty of booty with it and a Bigfoot coil. I've been poking around with my daughters AT-Pro since, but never fell in love.

Last week I bought a "new" used DFX, it's in better shape than my first one was when I got it. Most importantly, all my old tones are back! If you use a DFX and learn the tones for a decade, hearing them again is like listening to an old friend.

I've only been out to hunt on our property so far, but pretty happy with this handmade mattock:

I was afraid to pour money into an older detector, but it's hard to beat DFX + Bigfoot.

I totally get it! I was originally an AT Gold guy ten years ago, and made the transition about seven years ago to Deus. The human ear/brain in my opinion is the weakest link in deciphering tones from these high end machines.... I believe the DFX was the first multi frequency machine?

That DFX was a stellar machine. I had one for a coule of years that I picked up as a back-up/loaner but never used it more than a handful of times. I'm a Minelab guy and getting use to a DFX was challenging. But I committed to learning it so I found a copy of "Digging Deeper With The DFX" and it really helped. Just as I was getting use to it, a friend offered to buy it and that was the last of the money I needed to get my CTX3030, so reluctantly I let go of the DFX. Enjoy yours, I'm sure it will make great finds for you! I did have an amazing beach find with it, a very fine Silver chain a few inches deep in the sand.

Very hard to beat the DFX and the XLT Spectrum. I've made many a great find with both.

AMEN BRO.

It's all about what makes you happy when you are out detecting. I had a DFX many years ago and it was a great machine. It found a lot of gold, silver and some awesome artifacts. Enjoy the return of a good friend. :waytogo:

With my old DFX, the silver coins used to sing out loud and clear. I never had to guess if it was silver. It said to come and get me. Outside of the heavy weight, I really miss using that old machine. Good luck with it.
