Sadly, another one near me has been redone and stoopid rubber matt placed below!
We won't have many to detect pretty soon. It's a shame.

Yep, a sign of the times. Used to be the fiber cloth buried about 4-5" that was a pain as well.

The playground at my old elementary school was asphalt (late 60s)...and we still pretended that our swings were actually bombers that had been shot down, and we had to bail out!! Lots of scraped knees and elbows...Good times!!!

The city has replaced some of our tot lots with rubber, but they found in the summer, here in Kansas, no one goes to them because they get way too hot. All the latest are being redone with woodchips. Gotta love those woodchips.

The UV and ozone will gradually harden the rubber. They'll just have to learn to remove a different kind
of splinter!

They have actually removed a few of the rubber mat ones and replaced them with artificial grass. I have found a few earrings & chains in the artificial grass ones.

I hate those rubbery mats. Many, but not all, of the richer cities and school districts around the DFW metroplex are switching to rubber mats when they re-work their playgrounds.
