I went back to do a little doorknocking in the little town near my rig. I didn't want to head home quite yet since we weren't quite done drilling the well and I wasn't sure if I'd have to work my shift tonight or not.
I knocked on a few doors and got no answers. I asked one younger lady who was with her kids but understandably she wasn't too keen about some strange, bald, tattooed guy digging holes in her yard.
I drove around town a bit more and happened to drive by an old house I've been wanting to detect since I started doorknocking there and the guy who lives there was just walking out to head across the street. I pulled up next to him and he was more than happy to have me detect in his yard.
Immediately I dug two tokens which I thought was awesome but eventually dug 9 more! There was also 6 wheats to be had but the grand prize was in the back yard.
I was going along the edge of the yard and got a 1-40 at 4" on my CTX 3030 which usually means a half dollar. I started recording as I dug the hole, popped the plug out, swiped a couple times over the dirt and was a bit shocked to see a Morgan dollar staring back at me once the dirt was brushed away!!
An 1899-O Morgan to be exact with a bit of damage to it......I think there may have been a garden where it was at at one point in time and my theory is the tiller may have caused the damage......I wasn't about to leave it there though! That is only my second silver dollar to date.
If you're interested, it, along with a few other digs from that yard, will be in my next YouTube video.......look up High Plains Detecting.
