Hello Everyone,
This is GetDiggin', It has been so many years since my health get down hill and I had to give up the hobby so I am not sure if anyone here even remembers me, but my health still definitely isn't 100%, but it's to a point that I really want to get back into the hobby so I can get much needed exercise. I contacted a old friend of mine to talk to him about a new detector purchase, but it's been soooo long since I've been in the hobby that I definitely don't know what's good or bad these days lol. So I thought I would make a post here and lost off a few things and see if I can get some suggestions.
I will start off by saying, about 2 years ago I was thinking about coming back to the hobby too, but then my health denied that but at that time I was looking at the Nokta Simplex+, so that maybe still a option if you guys have some opinions on that after I explain my situation, but then again after I go over everything there might be a better option for me as well.
So back in the day when I was super active in the forums and in the hobby I had probably about 15 Detectors or even more lol, so I have tried so many but to be honest I don't remember much about any of them lol. I do remember that I had two favorite Detectors though which was the White's Spectra V3i & the XP Deus. Unfortunately these days I am not looking for a $1,000+ detector, at least not for my first detector back. I am looking to spend $600 or less, preferably less but I am willing to go up to $600 for the "Right" detector. Also like I mentioned my health still is not 100% so I would prefer a detector that is on the lighter side, one of the great things about the XP Deus, I have heard that XP makes some other good Detectors these days too, if there is another ultra light weight XP $600 or less. I will not be water hunting right away, BUT if health permits later on, I wouldn't be opposed to it, it was one of the reasons I was thinking about the Nokta Simplex+, but waterproof isn't a must have though either, because I am guessing water/Beach Detecting won't be for a bit, so if I want to go that route I can always upgrade later on.
Ok so the lighter the better but XP Deus weight isn't a must, just something on the lighter side and not a beast like the White's Spectra V3i was lol.I do a lot of Farm Field hunting, but also like Parks. I want something with a great display and discrimination. Also since I've been out of the hobby for so long that I would like a detector that will be on the easier side to master. I also would like a detector that has pretty good depths, because the farm fields I will be hunting in have been plowed or have homesteads on them, so need as much depth as possible. I will go ahead and post the Detectors that I was thinking about below, but these options are only options and not a "must", again I'm asking for the communities opinions
#1) XP Deus Option 1 or Option 2 (bit over budget)
#2) Nokta Simplex+
#3) Garrett APEX
#4) Minelab Equinox 600
#5) Honorable Mention (this is a maybe if enough people suggest, because its over budget) Minelab Equinox 700
#6) Honorable Mention #2 (again over budget) Nokta Legend I added this one because it was actually suggested by a friend and he mentioned it was a great detector and also mentioned it was waterproof up to like 20ft which is deeper than I'd ever go. Also I found THIS
EDIT: just came across this Minelab X-Terra as well, I haven't even seen this Detector until just now.
The reason I listed a couple "Over Budget" Detectors is because if those are the "right" detector for me, I would think about going that $100 over, but also I remember this community being A++ for buying & selling used Detectors, so I would even consider buying used too.
Ok so those are the Detectors I have been looking at, again I've been out of the hobby for probably near 8 years, so I know absolutely nothing about these Detectors beside what I've read about them and I've watched quite a few videos on the Nokta Simplex+. I don't know the weights on them or anything, which I guess I should have looked that up lol, but I'm sure some of you guys might know off the top of your heads. So I'll end the post here but there was one other thing I wanted to ask, back in the day the Pinpointer selection was pretty limited, I obviously had the Garrett Pro Pointer, and I also had a Minelab Pro-Find, I think back then there was only one available but I am pretty sure they have several to pick from these days, is the $99 Minelab Pro-Find 35 a decent Pinpointer?
Thanks for any advice folks
