Ok I gotta ask.

I have one of the older Vibra Probes and that is what I use in the water. I like the fact it is longer than most other PP's and yes, the tip only detecting is a plus for me when I'm doing river hunting. I'm not chasing the target near as much in a faster current.

You said you had a vibra probe and liked it. Then you said you might order one tonite.
What happened to the first one?
The tip-only sensitivity intrigued me, I am tired of digging sidewalls.
Not sure this the cure.
I actually wore the first one out. That took about 6 years. I had two Whites bullseyes and wore them both out. Each lasted about two years. I will say I am hard on a pin pointer. The Vibra- Probe is a PI detector. I loved how it worked and it's hefty and comes in a well made sheath. I'm just a fan of a pointer that does what it's supposed to......Pin point the target. Not one that goes off then you have to try to figure out the 8 directions it's in. I remember digging holes and being in and out and onto the next hole pretty quickly. I find myself fighting this Minelab pin pointer so much that it's frustrating. I can't even stand watching a video where someone gets a great signal then spends what seems like 10 minutes looking for the target.
I can pinpoint with the detector good enough to get close enough to make the tip of the pin pointer work. I believe it's the same as or maybe a few dollars more than the others that are considered the best.

The Vibra- Probe should be here tomorrow. Unfortunately I will have to work until next Wednesday then one day off so it will be at least a week or so before I actually get to use it.

I don't mind if people come up to me and ask some questions. If I can paint the hobby in a good way, all the better. I just don't like it when some parents see me as a good babysitter and allow their kids to follow me all over. That's when I leave and go somewhere else.

The Vibra- Probe is HERE. Yep it's just as I remember. It's heavy duty it's big and it works like it should. When this thing goes off you are THERE. I suggest going easy at that point.

Just a tip for anyone thinking of getting this pin pointer.

1. It vibrates only
2. It turns on when you tip it up
3. It shuts off automatically I think after a minute of not using it (once it's back in the holster)
4. You can also shut it off manually simply by tipping it up and holding it there you'll get two long vibrations and it shuts off
5. No ON/OFF buttons or detuning to waste time on.
6. last but not least...........All of this you do easily with one hand. I found myself fighting the Minelab pro find so much. I honestly think it's a combination of how it works in general and mine for some reason I had to turn it off and on sometimes 5 or 6 times to get it to come on. It wasn't like that in the beginning but ended up that way.

Minelab You should know that there is a huge market for a great pin pointer. You have seriously overlooked this aspect of detecting. By now I would think you'd have one with a small screen giving distance from the target and an arrow in the direction since it seems to read in EVERY direction. Until then...It's Vibra- Probe.

I think that's the first one I had. I liked it a lot. I gave it to a friend of one of my sons he was in college and did not have one. I got a new trx then (I think). I looked up the one you got and mine was the same. Were they around 15-20 years ago or was there a similar one?

I do believe there was an earlier model but I had this very same one 10 or 15 years ago. But like they say...when it's that good what is there to change? It already has everything I need.

I use vibrate only with the carrot, that chirping to me is irritating and does produce unwanted attention.. I do a ground grab (retune) when needed . That usually tells me what direction the target is located. I have a TRX and that works great when you're trying find a target around large tree roots. I will say the carrot doesn't seem to last as long as they used to. I got a new one for Christmas, that is the 3rd since 2015 .That said outa the Garrett, the TRX and the Pro-find 35 the carrot is still my favorite. Mark
I dropped mine on the pavement last fall it landed flat on the speaker and it came off the board. It was a 2018 and out-of-warranty. But I sent it in any way it cost $40 for repairs including shipping they even put it in a new carcass so it is just like new.

Nice to see some love for the Vibra-probe! I have had the 580 for around 18 years. Tip only detection makes me find my target super fast!
I have watched in person and in videos where people take forever to find the target using xyz pinpointer.
I have purchased a few used pinpointers recently for the new season. Mainly as a backup just in case.
The 580 is still going strong though.
I might buy the 585 beacue of the new battery circuits.

Just wanted to add.....there is a reason why the TRX is going for way over 200$ on the auction site. Tip only is the way to go!

What other pinpointer are tip only ,aside from the trx? I used a Garrett carrot since they came out, and I swear by them..But a tip only wouldn't be a bad tool to have, but I'm not paying $200 for a used TRX

I have been using the carrot and thought the TRX would be a good idea so I bought one last year... and while it is a very nice pinpointer, I still prefer and use the carrot most of the time.

I've never detected as much as most guys. Once or twice a week when I was active but have , since 2014. My original Garrett Pro-pointer still works fine. I got a Minelab Pro find when I bought a Nox 600. I played around with it in the house and was goofing around for a while figuring how to get it on and off correctly. I still love my Garrett Pro finder, the old black original. I treat it nice. Cleaning it off when im done and besides a little scraping I don't dig with it. I go easy.
