So I finally dug a coin garden and the results really suprized me, but make sense given what I have been experiencing the last 2 hunts in parks. I will keep updating this thread, since we are under a winter weather advisory, I did not finish with the single frequency modes and freezing rain is falling.
Please note my yard is very trashy(moslty iron and aluminum nails and shards). I did a quick sweep of this area but still get noise after doing a noise cancel in a clean area. Ground balance is set to auto and has been between 70-84. I upped the sensitivity from 20 to 22 for this test. The recovery was set to 3(default on all modes but beach 1 on nox 600). Note recovery numbers differ from 600 to 800 models. I changed the recovery to 1(would be 2 on the 800) after getting very faint to no signal on my 1st sweep in park 1 mode default recovery. This explains the 2 sets of numbers for park 1. A line and no number shows there was no detectable signal. I will eventually be testing the 800 on this same garden whenever backorders get filled.
There is a picture of the targets I buried in order according to the chart.
So far i have found no silver with my nox using park 2 and beach 2 with rocovery set to 3(6 on the nox800).
There was a lot of variation on target id numbers, i wrote down the most consistent numbers displayed when I was zeroed in over the target. I used multiple angles to sweep every target. Some targets in some modes only displayed good numbers in one direction(which were not noted), so doing your own garden in your own soil conditions would likely give you a better understanding of this machine. Also note I am a complete novice in regards to metal detecting, I am here to learn and share my experiences, so feel free to comment or correct me if I am making any fundamental mistakes with my test. Soil is moist from the recent snow melt, idk if that affects anything, and targets are 8-9" deep.
