Had some excess energy to burn off so hit the woods where I saw some broken glass last Spring. Forgot a shovel so probe-dug a few really common 1920s bottles. There was a lot of broken ones including some sodas and milks . There is more to dig so I'll return as time and weather allows either this fall or next year. BTW the Smith Bros. is cough syrup by those same two bearded gents who gave us their cough drops. The last pic is a Hammond Brewing Co. beer from circa 1915 which would have had a label. Info: http://www.oldbreweries.com/breweri...-il-1-brewery/west-hammond-brewing-co-il-25b/ BTW, West Hammond, Illinois changed it's name to Calumet City in 1923. Since then, many have called it "Sin City" for obvious reasons.
Update: Found a few nice Deco sodas and an Ink with a 1.5" bottle inside. The Lomax is from Chicago (1926), Hobart, Ind. Bottling Works (undated, 1920s), United Bottling Co. Gary, Ind. (undated 1920s). The ink is unembossed, and the tiny bottle that was inside it says "Cutex" on the bottom, nail polish.
