Sometimes it DOES take a Rocket Scientist!

(Purportedly a true story)

Scientists at NASA built a gun specifically to launch standard 4-pound dead chickens at the windshields of airliners, military jets and the space shuttle, all traveling at maximum velocity. The idea was to simulate the frequent incidents of collisions with airborne fowl to test the strength of the windshields.

British engineers heard about the gun and were eager to test it on the windshields of their new high-speed trains. Arrangements were made, and a gun was sent to the British engineers. When the gun was fired, the engineers stood shocked as the chicken hurled out of the barrel, crashed into the shatterproof shield, smashed it to smithereens, blasted through the control console, snapped the engineer's backrest in two, and embedded itself in the back wall of the cabin, like an arrow shot from a bow.

The horrified Brits sent NASA the disastrous results of the experiment, along with the designs of the windshield, and begged the US scientists for suggestions.

NASA responded with a one-line memo: "Defrost the chicken."

I was on the highway doing about seventy when a turkey flew across :ohthedrama: It passed across my windshield less than five feet and scared the stuffing out of me. :turkey: I'm pretty sure it was not frozen, that would have been even worse. :toofunny:

Good thing Nasa didn't tell them to "unthaw" the chicken. The Brits would be like, Oh deary me mates, why the knackers would we refreeze the blimey chicken"?

True story. Quite a few years ago we bought a Chevy S-10 Blazer. Dealer called to say it was ready for me so when I went there to pick it up they were just finishing the washing and told me to go to the shop to take a look. The bay right next to where our car was had a Yukon or Tahoe and right where the rearview mirror was the glass was blown out and the top of the vehicle was peeled back about a foot. I asked the guy working on it what did they hit. He said a Turkey in flight hit them.:jawdrop: I thought Deer caused a lot of damage. Had that bird hit lower in the shield it could have possibly hurt or even killed the occupant.
