I don't have an account, but my father did and this is his that I'm posting on, I was wondering if anyone who knew him could tell me anything about his detectors or even their value.

My condolences about your dad...

He was very well liked and respected on here..

I don't know too much about his water machines but I'm sure you are in the right place for some info...

You should take up were he left off IMO...

Welcome to the Friendly Forum!

I'm very sorry for your loss. Was he in the detecting club in St. Pete?? if so they might be able to help you too!! The excal II is a good water machine and if it is in pretty good shape might be worth $800+ used. The vibraprobe should be worth at least $50 used and the scoops probably $100 I would think. Not an expert on prices of things used but you can check them out on ebay to to get an idea.

Hi there, cliff is his name, detecting name is CDV1 and use to hunt with your dad and he is on vaction right now and he'll be home on Mon, the 26th his email is , [email protected] he might know more about his machines, sorry for your Loss, Big Scoopman

Sorry about your Dad. I know Cliff (CDV) hunted with him a lot and tried to notify those of us who had hunted with him. Super guy..... i borrowed his Deep Field for awhile. He took good care of his machines. Clearly the Xcal he had with its shaft is worth $900. The DF, $600 maybe. The XLT is an older single freq machine, dry sand only, might pull $450 depending on what he has and condition. Even FLPHIL whose a dealer in Tampa knowing who you are may consign or help you out on them.

I plan on picking up where he left off with one of his machines, but i was just looking for somewhere I could bring them to get appraised, afterall I'm pretty clueless with them

My condolences for your loss. Your father joined briefly our detector club called Suncoast research and recovery club. We happen to be having our monthly meeting at bill Jackson's in st. Pete this coming monday night at 7. You are certainly welcome to join us and have a bunch of people give you an idea on the value of your dads detectors. You dad was a good guy and is really missed on the beaches here in clearwater. Again sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, he was a great guy...
I'm glad you decided to hang on to one of his machines, i hope you get in to the hobby...

Sorry for your loss, Cliff was a good guy.

The Excal is the one you will definitely want to keep if you plan on beach hunting. The Dual Field is a pulse induction (PI) machine, meaning it goes deeper than the VLF machines, but it can't tell you what kind of metal is under the ground, like a VLF (Very Low Frequency) can... which can be frustrating if you run into an area with a lot of rusty iron. The Excal is a VLF. The PI is used for when targets are few and far between and extra depth is a big advantage, the VLF best used when the targets are plentiful and depth isn't as important as target identification.

Drop me an email, I'm only a few blocks away from the house if that is still where the .machines are. Really do miss your dad, I had more fun with him hunting those few short months last year and earlier this year. I'd be glad to help out any way I can and even with taking you out to help you get started if needed.

Sorry for your loss

Hope you take up the hobby, it is a lot of fun. Who knows when you are out there walking around on the beach with his detector with your headphones on you may feel his presence with you.

Sorry for your loss. Judging by the number of posts your dad had, I would say thats the best place to start to get an understanding of his machines, what they are capable of and what he has found with them. That should give you an idea of which machine or machines you should keep. You will also probably learn a lot about your dad and his love for this hobby.

Cliff (CDV) is your best contact for the info you are looking for. He knows detectors and is a really nice easy to get along with guy. I bet he will take you to the beach and teach you. He was probably your Dad's closest detecting buddy. They were known as Cliffy and the other Cliff. We miss Cliff a lot. I am from Jacksonville but met him at Clearwater. When I visit CDV and I fist bump before hunts in his memory. If you follow in his steps as you said, he would be so proud of you. It is what he loved to do and he was one of the best. You should be proud of Dad.

I am so sorry for your loss, your father was a real good guy, he really lightened the forum up,,,,I hope you find some gold with his stuff and do his so called, "happy dance",,,best wishes for you and would sell the Dual Field for no less than 450 and keep the Excal II,,,,if you choose to sell the excal, it should go for 8 or 900 as already said,,,,Best wishes and HH
