I don't disagree (with this or the rest of your post). I'm definitely not going to go telling someone that they best not do this or that or they'll get a ticket (at least when it comes to metal detecting when not trespassing on private property). I've never actually heard of it happening from a first or second hand source. Though I do know that one precinct of my county is fairly rabid about it, and puts the no metal-detecting rule out there pretty regularly.
