Found this at a 1805 house in Upper East Tennessee which has been continuously inhabited since it was built. The backside of the object is flat and it appears that there was another circle on the other side of the bridge that was broken off making it symmetrical. At first glance I thought it was a frame for a pair of glasses, but the puzzling thing is that there is a connector on what appears as the bottom of the circle. It occurred to me that it could be a lorgnette and the connector is for a handle. This could also explain the small size of the circular part. Any thoughts? Anyone found something similar?
