Is the Deus better than the Etrac?

I have a Deus with both LF and HF coils and also have a CTX. Love them both. And each one will find stuff behind the other one. And any other brand would probably find stuff behind both. That's how it works folks.

But gun-to-head had to chose I'd take the Deus because it's far more adaptable to any condition and it's recovery is lightning fast.

I go through spells.
Use one model for a week or 2.
Then change to another.
Sometimes I juat put a small coil on and go, with no other coil, period.

One thing.
I don't like to change detectors once I start detecting.
I'm in it for the win.

The ole ears and brain get programmed.
You switch, can be hard to get concentration back.

Nice read Nectar.
Them there Soverigns have pulled a bunch of plates in Tn.

When it comes to hunting in modern trash, my CTX gets the nod almost every time. Yes you can probably hit all of the same targets with the Deus but unless you have unlimited time and are willing to dig a lot of trash, I think the CTX and Etrac are better suited for the job. I recently discovered that the CTX can also hit very deep nickels.. Pulled a 8" shield nickel out of a heavily hunted spot just a couple of days ago.

I also think the Deus is great for more than just hunting in iron. Due to its compact size and light weight, it's one of the best scouting machines I've ever used. For those same reasons it's also great for hunting in the woods. Much easier to maneuver in the brush than most other detectors. I own multiple detectors because each one excels at different types of hunting. The perfect do-it-all detector doesn't exist and probably never will.

This is a excellent thread here, the exchange of ideas and experiences are invaluable.

When Nectar posted this
"Guys who test detectors, or get a new one every 6 months...ask yourself "How well could they REALLY know every detector when they have 10 of them in their current arsenal."
Then ask yourself about that same guy... "How well could he know each of the 10 detectors, if he switches back and forth with them all the time?" Point being, doesn't that guy actually FORGET many things about that detector due to using it infrequently?"

I really took notice as I am a guy with many different units. I asked myself this same question awhile back as I sat there looking at my Deus, CTX, Racer2, Explorer, Impact among others. Is it better to know 1 machine well rather than to know 5 machines mediocrely?
It gets very confusing switching from different formats, programs, settings etc. and a lot of time is wasted relearning things.
My solution to this is to have 1 main machine that I use and then always have 1 or 2 others in the truck.
When I bought my AT Pro that is the machine I used primarily for that season and most of the next season. When I bought the E Trac that became my main machine although I would still pull the AT Pro out once in awhile to keep familiar with it.
After a year and some with the E Trac I bought the CTX3030 which became my main unit BUT I always tried to get other units out at least once a week. I also always carry a half dozen user manuals in my backpack to read on my downtime at work and to keep freshened up on them.
This season I have been spending the majority of my time with the Deus and it has paid off. I can say without a doubt that my Deus is the deepest machine I own. Does it ID accurately at depth? NO. But if I get a high tone with just a shading in the horseshoe I am going to dig it and more times than not it is a keeper. BUT not all areas I dig have coins 10" deep so in these other spots it is nice to have the E Trac or CTX where you can see the 12/43 on the screen and know you have a coin there.

I bought the Nokta Impact awhile back and have not given it the time it really deserves so for the rest of this season it will become my main unit and I will learn it inside and out.

I used to actually think that the Deus was not a good unit for coin shooting and relegated it for relic hunting only but once I took it out in other environments and put it to the test I was pleasantly surprised.

The main thing here is I LOVE detecting and also love all the tools I use to do it.
I know we all from time to time get in the mindset that "OUR" machine is the best and all others fall short and that is why I like to try machines others have touted. Sometimes I find they are a dud and other times I am blown away by what I have been missing.

We live in one of the best times right now, the age of technology. Things are changing and improving so fast it is hard to grasp one thing before the next thing comes along but as a guy who swung a Whites 6000 Di for years I am ecstatic about the new machines coming out every year.

Also very happy with the exchange of information and experience shared here on the forum. I have learned much here that I have put to use and am a better detectorist because of it.

I hope this all makes sense as I am only one cup of coffee into my morning. I wanted to respond to this thread last night at work when I read it but I am all thumbs on my I Phone

Great info too choppadude!

I was kind of in the same boat as you when I got my 3030. By that time I had used my AT PRO for a couple of years, and had a pretty good understanding of it.

To this day I still use the ATP and 3030 with about the same frequency. It's a killer combo to have and luckily the ATP isn't really complicated to learn or remember. Some may disagree, but in my personal opinion there not a whole lot to learn abt the ATP due to it's ease of use and turn on and go functionality.

As you said, we're lucky to live in the age of technology. Whether we want to admit it or not, these new machines are making it easier and easier to cheat out there! lol I know I need all the help I can get, so I aint complaining!

Good post Choppa.

LOL! I had a 5900 & 6000 Di Pro and remember getting very excited when the Spectrum XLT came out. Had to have one!

Nice post Choppa.

Few things here.
Notice which detectors I talk about mostly.
Why the ones I do.

Because I run them more and am more proficient.
I have seen and compared to other detectors (good ones) I think.

I have nowhere here been diving in on the for example Minelab GPX 4500, even the Blisstool V6.

Btw, watch what happens here soon with my detector list at the bottom.
I did a few transactions today with a sponsor here.

And should point out, how do we as a detecting community, how would we get some info on detector performance,,if all folks did is run just one model?

Or how would a person know how good or bad, depending, which detector models is better or worse for whatever detecting one chooses to do.

I could drive a ford pinto my whole life.
Sure get from point A to B, and I could cherish my Pinto.
But just how good was the pinto when compared to the rest of the available models?
