Impossible to ID coin?

This is a coin I found near my rose bushes in Virginia. Weighs 8 grams, 28 to 29mm in diameter, and is encrusted in iron so don't know the metal id. I can make out a 6 but thats about it? Please help out if you can and also suggest some affordable cleaning solution/tools. Appreciated!

Sorry I have to agree with stetam on this. Just not enough detail to make even a guess. Oh, I know, I know. It's a large cent from California.
