Identification Help

Anyone have any idea what this could be used for? It looks hand forged, and is either copper or bronze. There area three holes total - two of which are through holes. Two of them are also tapped. It was found in a field which I assume has been a farm for a hundred years. However, there was also known civil war activity in the area. Any information would help. Thanks

Looks like a centering frame for a gas boiler/water heater? Just a wag though.
