How should I clean this.

Is there anyway to clean this? I believe it is copper and possibly a coin that was used for a necklace (pure speculation on my part).
There are some markings on it but I can’t make out what they are. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

looks like a William Henry Harrison log cabin token C. 1840. On one side says "The people's choice". I would not clean it, but that's me.

I agree with Doug. Do not clean. There really is nothing to clean. What ever you remove at this point will be coin features. Very cool find BTW.

Great find.
It's a little toasty so I'd rub a bit of renaissance wax onto it to help preserve it and bring out a little more detail.
