Hello, I'm a returning member who hasn't been on since 2009. I can't remember my previous name or login. I wasn't very active in the forums and I think I only posted twice.

I've been metal detecting since 2007, first with a White's, then with a Minelab Explorer XS. I took a break from detecting for several years while I was in the Army, and only recently got back into it. Before coming back to the United States, I used my Tesoro Compadre to detect in Asia, but never found anything worth mentioning.

I currently live in the Monterey Bay area in California. I have always wanted to try water detecting, though I know California is not exactly the Mecca of beach hunting. Regardless, last month I purchased a Tesoro Sandshark and have been giving that a go. I really enjoy being in the water and think I'll spend more time on the beach. I regularly browse Craigslist and local forums and keep a detailed record of all reported missing jewelry, in the hope that I can return someone's lost valuables. NO LUCK SO FAR :D

I understand a LOT of beach hunters on this forum have some really negative opinions of the Sandshark, and some local guys don't hold the machine in high regard. This hasn't deterred me from going out swinging whenever possible, however, and I've found clad, jewelry, and a few interesting things. Today I found a woman's watch that was probably dropped within the last few days.

Two names stand out in my memory as people from this area, Tom_in_CA and Seabee_Ron. If either of you gentlemen would like to meet for a hunt, please let me know. Tom, if you're not still anxious about your experience at Fort Ord back before BRAC, we can give that a try.

One last thing; I was at the beach today, halfway up to my neck in water, when I looked up and saw a man watching me from the dry sand. The man was wearing a three piece suit, with a collared shirt and a tie and dress shoes. In his left hand he held a metal detector, and in his right, a glove. Apparently, he was detecting on his lunch break. If you are on this forum, sir, I have to tell you; that was the first time I've ever seen someone detecting in formal business attire.

Anyway, thanks for having me.
