Went out for a hunt in my favorite woods again today. Within the first five minutes, I pulled out a beautiful Savannah Mercantile Co. 10-cent token. It is about the size of a nickel. The only thing I could find on the Savannah Mercantile Company is a tidbit that stated that it was piled in with other companies in 1913 and made into a new company.
I was off to a magnificent start. If I had found nothing else, I would have been happy. And for a while, I thought that was what I was going to do. About 3 hours later, I lucked out and had another great find... What rang up as 19-26 on the Nox turned out to be a rusty heart-shaped padlock with a keyhole cover. On the keyhole cover is a faint but visible old-school eagle. I now have it in a bucket and trying electrolysis on it and hopeing for the best.
I did find a lock that looked just like it on line... Though I can't see it on my lock dust cover, the one I found online says it was made by “WW&Co,” which stands for William Wilcox Company, from Middletown, CT, in business 1845-1875.
All I can say is, it was a great day.
