Rather than door knocking on rural homesteads headed into a small local village for a better chance at silver. Spotted an older gentleman mowing his yard with a nice late 1800s home, I pounced, got permission and off I went. Oh no, lots of nails, mineralized dirt but had a good day and pushed through it. First pull was an old zinc jar lid but it had an interesting porcelain seal. Normally toss these but kept it as it was unique, turned out to be an oldie, Hero Fruit Jar Co., Philly, P.A. and dates late 1800s. Then I hit a hot spot in the front yard pulling several wheats an 1897 IHP and a 1900 Barber. Off to the back yard, trashy as expected but pulled a decent 1929 SLQ and a very slick 1864 IHP. Finally ended up with (what I though was a tin) lighter cap in two pieces. Wrong...its marked with 'G. Sterling" so ended up with a bit of Glasgow silver to end the day. Cheers.
