Fisher Impulse AQ detector update

Pricey is a Great thing, the high the cost the less likely I'm to see one around here. Seems the Nox fever has taken over, I went to the club meeting the other night and I believe one out of two hunters has it.

Joe.. as David has said you maybe surprised you aren't missing much with your modded Excal.. I have had a guy refuse to hunt with me because he runs the stock Excals and they feel they can't compete.. I have found some deep gold because of the skullies..

Yup, same with over here.. of the dozen or so I see at night I'd say at least 75% are equinox, 20% ctx

The weight alone is a nice advantage. Throw in the response to low conductors and the CTX is just obsolete in the wet sand.

Still waiting... You claimed your TDI air tested at 17"... Also stated the Fisher was significantly deeper. What is significantly???

(I am not even asking the power your machine was running, the coil, the machines setting, or if you even know how to beach hunt. I watched all the videos, that air test with a large ferrous target then non-ferrous target was no where even close to 17". Even if that machine air tests badly...)

Sandcrab

+1 , if i am spending 1 1/2 time's more for this machine vs a Beach hunter , it's only fair he answer's that ? with honesty , and detail, plus throw in the video  , we all want to know, and see :yikes: :?: I have all way's been a Fisher fan, since ML won't sell me Excalibur coil's, i need a good reason to sell them ALL howboutit :viking2:

The TDI which gave a faint return on a quarter in air at 17” was specially modified with mods developed by Reg Sniff. It was way quieter than a standard TDI. The AQ hit a nickel buried in black sand at San Diego at 17 - 18” with a solid return.

I have posted thse previously elsewhere - but since the talk turned to videos, I thought I’d post them again

first is a video from I think 2015 of a v.3 prototype of the Manta - I added the titles so that the French audio won’t hold you back.

The second and third ones are of the same vintage and shows some “in sand” tests of various machines

When and if you can get your hands on an AQ, you can answer all of your own questions. Even before that, there will be lots of folks posting their experiences with it.

Until then what you and I say about it is pretty well pointless except to help and focus our questions and expectations so that we can properly evaluate it when it appears - whenever that is!

I was lucky enough to use one for a few days but even then my use was limited by the need to drive from PHX to San Diego and do a fair bit of normal tourist stuff with my wife.

My TDI use included lots of hours with 2 different ones. I followed that project from its very start because I had been corresponding with Reg Sniff for several years about PI detectors, especially Eric Foster’s. Reg was part of the team which turned Eric Foster’s Goldscan 4 into the Whites TDI.

I got one of the original thru hole ones in July 2008. My beach time with it was mostly at Virginia Beach during the time I worked in Yorktown VA on a contract with the USAF at Langley.

My modded TDI that got a faint return on a quarter at 17” in the air is now with “Paul CA” who is using it relic hunting in central CA. He agrees that it is the smoothest TDI he has ever seen

I read the V.3 Manta and it was putting out 17 volts the new model that they are pushing today is 15 volts so how is it going to be deeper than the old models?

CFM-ct

They lowered the voltage by 2 , from the 2015 test , cutting cost, only to charge premium price's is not good, i am sure the machine would run hotter with 17 volt's vs 15 volt's, valid point , thank's for sharing . Fisher better come up with new video's , current video's and stop remaining silent , as it look's like the Fisher ship is taking on water  The hype with no backup , goes down with the ship.:popcorn:

Skullies with the right person and machine are very hard to beat. One reason I see them on the "AQ" but only used in AM. I worked with DOC's signal amp for years and finally found a headset that can offer the same DB rating, w/o the amp.

Be patient Big Earl...it's coming.

Ok obn

Maybe Fisher should have let Ring Daddy give it the real test , just can't see a Arizona desert hunter- testing this machine on a vacation- to the CA coast valid, unless - promised a Gold Nugget model when they come out after this model , check out his posts 85% guess what :jawdrop: are about :cool3: , including other forums'. Joe i need a free machine  i am getting scared bro. Maybe i will settle for a TDI and join the CT club howboutit , i would hate to see those guy's smoke us with there TDI's :jawdrop::holycow::frustrated::twisted::takethat: Joe you getting your's 1st ;) So i don't have to walk the plank ? What is your pro thought's howboutit :?: And the volt change from 17 to 15 , will that mean a huge difference on raw depth performance :?: Funny he never really answered Sand crab's ? Craig's ? and I would love to here your ?s ALL ANSWERED please feel free to throw some secret sauce in the kettle , stir it , taste it, before i get it :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::please: buddy

Surf Master, you keep talking about HE. He who??? You know my name - Rick Kempf, if you are talking about me kindly say so. You seem to have done your homework - checking out my old posts on this forum and others. That’s good. There is a reason I put my real name on what I post. Not all of my opinions and predictions have turned out to stand the test of time, but I acknowledge all of them and put my real name on them. I have never used any forum name except lytle78 and Rick K or Rick Kempf - in addition for many years now my posts have a sig which includes my actual name.

I never said that I tested the machine, only that I was sent one to do headphone testing and then, being allowed to keep it over a weekend, I played with it at the beach in San Diego. I did some simple experiments and reported my very limited results. If you don’t like that Surf Master, it’s not my problem.

Am I more interested in the future developments of this platform? Hell yes. They have announced that it will be developed into a gold nugget hunter. There is 100’s of times more sales potential world wide for one of those as there is for any beach machine - and, of course it would be of much more use to me here in AZ.

Here’s a tidbit from your latest post...

“cutting cost, only to charge premium price's is not good, i am sure the machine would run hotter with 17 volt's vs 15 volt's,”

You have absolutely zero information on which to base you allegation that the supposed change from 17 to 15 volts power supply output was made in order to cut cost - but you went ahead and threw it out there - as if you had any idea whether it was true or not..not nice.

You are talking about 15 or 17 volts from the battery. You have no idea if it has a regulated power supply or not, so voltage to the transmitter is unknown to you. Secondly, it’s CURRENT (electrical power), not voltage, which is the key parameter in PI power.

The Minelab SD2100 is a very powerful PI detector - many argue that for raw depth no later GP or GPX was any deeper - it is powered by a 6 volt battery - but a big one - lots of amps.

It will be interesting to see what Fisher does with this. Maybe they will take a leaf from Minelab’s play book and emphasize “Pro” dealers who offer training and support like ML does with their high-end gold nugget machines. If you buy one of those $7000 GPZ’s from one of these dealers and get free training.

They have made it clear that this machine can’t be priced like a Bounty Hunter or even an F-75 - too much engineering invested in its development and use of premium parts which Fisher will not be buying in the quantities that they do for their mass-market machined - this means that their costs are higher. So how many will they risk making in the first production run? I doubt that they have the answer to that yet. If they “hedge their bets” on production quantities, it may well be that they are hard to get for a while.

Mind you, all of this is just my own speculation.

What is your pro thought's howboutit

Carl Moreland, I trust..One of the best.

Decided against throwing my name in as a tester, A new machine like that takes time to learn and tweek for the best results. And the same goes for both,... TDI & "AQ", either would get the job done. I'm just attracted to the "AQ" more.

Mr. Rick Kempf

You been stuck in the desert to long bro., you need to get to the beach more often , don't know what the desert sun does to those nugget hunter's that hang on the Beach forum preaching Manta gospel , but the information has been out since March 2016 - 17 VOLTS :laughing: regard's Earl http://www.dankowskidetectors.com/discussions/read.php?2,101872 Now 15 :jawdrop::lookclose::pirate2: Joe when you come down to the beach , we all can give it a REAL TEST  Craig your invited to, bring a TDI for comparison. Ps Rick i am half owner of a double lot in AZ , though inheritance of my parent's estate , however when your talking Gold nugget detector's , have no interest , both my sister and i will sell that property . I like it on the East Coast. Scroll to the 6th forum down, you will fit wright in with the Prospector's happy hunting ;) OH Dang i forgot to mention the prototype one of 3, the hottest sold for 2k USD :thumbsup::dingding: now we are talking . Joe is Carl still director of Engineering at 1st Texas or did he retire ? Never mind found the info. He left Whites , and now will finish his career with First Texas , well Joe i guess your secret Sauce with the now named Fisher Impulse AQ will be worth the wait, however they did say release by the end of 2019 :( another season  hoping for May :wish:

My dear SM.

I have some trouble decoding your message amongst all the emoji garbage, but - yes Carl Moreland is still Chief Engineer at First Texas Products - who produce Fisher, Teknetics and Bounty Hunter detectors.

If you don’t understand why the difference between a 17 volt battery and a 15 volt (nominal) battery is irrelevant, then I have to conclude you have no real grasp on how Pulse Induction detectors work. I won’t take the trouble to dig through the pile of posts you have made, but i suspect that in spite of your likely skills at finding stuff at the beach, you have little knowledge of the actual physics and electronics of how these things work.

Of course, I may be totally mistaken. In which case perhaps you could enlighten us on exactly how the difference between a 17 volt DC battery pack and a 15 volt battery pack will alter the performance of a PI metal detector. Also how you gained the knowledge that this change was made in order to cut costs and simultaneously jack up the eventual price of the AQ.

Yes - put up or....

I await enlightenment.

Rick

It's ok , i am sure 1st Texas will make changes till finally the machine is released , just made a point that they did make a change from the prototype running 17 volt's to now 15 volts, and one of the prototype's was sold for 2k, that's it , several people have asked you question's on here that expect answer's SINCE you have them from the AZ desert , don't just pick on me, everyone know's i can take it, so catch wind bro., answer Sand Crabs, Cfm-CT , DEWs ,OBNs question's, don't waste your time on me  , happy nugget hunting, Earl PS i can't enlighten you, try CHURCH ;)

I’ve got another one of my dumb questions.....if the money isn’t in a beach machine then why not do the dirt one first? I believe there is a market....I can’t see Fisher loosing their shorts here. I think at this point they just can’t compete with those HOT ML.....yet. So we get a machine to see what needs improving....there is a bigger beach market than u may think Rick.

Joe ... if they wait until Fall I believe they will loose a ton of advertising. If this machine is this good it needs to come out when th majority of hunters might use and buy it. Well unless they follow ML .....small batches. Or just don’t think they can produce enough.

Thanks for the nice come back - SM - I felt like I was being picked on - and that ain’t my favorite thing....

This thing will be whatever it turns out to be. I own no First Texas stock - it’s a closely held corporation - no outsiders own any.

I don’t work for them - just got to be a big time fan because of my ongoing long term correspondence with Dave Johnson and later Carl Moreland. I then met Tim Mallory and Mike Scott in the Marketing outfit. I like them and wish them well.

I also have been fascinated by PI detectors since I had a second-hand Eric Foster Sandpiper PI beach detector in Norway about 30 years ago or so.

No harm, no foul. If you want to comment on me, just please call me out directly - it’s better that way.
