Finders Keepers?

Find a $10,000 ring ? How hard do you search for the owner ? Are you %*$^&% kidding me !?!?! Stick it in your pocket and run for the truck, try not to run over too many folks while leaving the scene..   HH                      Roadrunner_426

LOL.   Agreed.  If someone was foolish enough to spend $10k+ on a piece of jewelry then as the saying goes "a fool and their money are soon parted."

I know im new but I read the 1st page of this thread and decided to respond.

The people who return these items have got to be chrisitan lol because I live in the ghetto, it's all about finders/ keepers here.. hell I've seen people pick up another persons 4doz and drink it because it's been sitting too long. I know Ive lost plenty of items and never have seen even one returned to me.. I must say the chance the person will read your ad after lets say 2-3 years after they lost the item has got to be about 2% at best and then if you put the ad in the paper you'll prob. be bombarded by calls and questions.. Id rather give a telemarketer my number... And besides all that most likely it's just another useless pocession to a rich person.. who looses $10,000 rings?? If I had a $10k right, id have it padlocked to my finger.

"Things" that are lost are not always worth money. The meaning behind a cheap or expensive ring could mean more to someone than all the money in the world. My philosophy is that if it means something to someone, a lost loved one, first love etc then it should be returned if possible. None of us would sleep well at night if we knew that we had the opportunity to return something and make another person smile. If you try and can't find the owner, happy days!!!!

Very interesting replies! Wish I could be that lucky! I would try to return it if it was identified with initials, but otherwise I would sell it or set it aside for my wife to wear or for my children to use for their future wedding.

Wow, still going! Some interesting comments. For me I still feel it depends on the object found. I guess it if I can reasonably find the owner I would try. If not it's mine!

Can I add my .02 cents?

Something else that we don't generally think about are the people that throw away rings "on purpose"

Such as the boyfriend breaking up with the girl and she gets mad, and throws the ring in the sand. I have heard of this happening.

I even know the location of a diamond engagement ring that was tossed out a car window into the woods too.

Relationships nowadays are sometimes volatile! The couple gets divorced and bye bye to the ring. I would hate to find a ring and return it, to have them spit in my face.

No... I only return rings or things to people that asked me to find them to begin with, and even then they better remember exactly where they lost it. And if I didn't find it, then at least I would put in my best effort to find it.
