The weather was damn near Summer for the weekend up here in NY, so the kids and I hit the yard for a while. Of course we found a ton of junk from the flood a few years ago, but had a great time. A pile of Crusty's, some coppers, modern quarters, an ancient brass buckle(over a foot down!) and a tiny sterling silver heart charm. But the curiousity of the day was a gold colored 1956 wheat penny I found way out back. I thought I struck gold because of the gold rim around it. Anyone seen anything like this? Sorry for the crappy phone pics. My camera died. I'll try to get better pics when I can.

Looks like the penny was plated by someone with an electroplating set. I have a set of 1955 p-d-s cents bought years ago at a coin show plated the same, probably done as a novelty.

It was a fun day and now I'm itching to get back out there. I'm pretty sure the brass buckle is from a horse saddle. My yard is part of the very first settled property in my town in the mid 1700's. I'm hoping to find the location of the original house that was burned down by the Natives. Neat history.
