Hello all!

My name is Harley, 30 from Indiana. Ever since i was a kid i wanted a metal detector. It just always looked so cool! Never did get one, until January this year. I bought a cheapo from harbor freight for 40 and the 17 dollar nail finder/pin pointer. Dug up the backyard pretty good found a ton of trash, and a little over 3 dollars in coins. I learned the ropes for a couple weeks with that set up--until the pin pointer stopped working. Such is life.

I decided i needed to get out of my back yard, if not for the sake of my grass. But, i wanted a better machine before doing so. Also, i had a weird apprehension about going in public to detect. So, 2 weeks ago i splurged, after much research and advice, on a Tesoro Silver uMax and Garret AT ProPointer. Fantastic set up now!

I researched the code and regulations of my local parks dept, and familiarized myself with some legal stuff in order to abide by thr diggers ethics. Went to our biggest and oldest park this past Sunday and hit 3 sites. As before i mentioned my apprehension, once i actually got up the nerve i was all over. The best thing I've found yet is confidence.

My twin brother moved to Arizona last year, he got himself the same set up a month before me. We are now having a coin shooting challenge from across the country.

So, I'm ready for better weather to go diggin! Glad to come to this forum too!

I tried to attach a pic of my first finds from the park, but apparently it's too big? I'll figure that out later.

That is a good detector and a top notch pin pointer. U will likely dig a lot of trash with the goodies but don't get discouraged.

Congratulations Harley on your choice of detectors and welcome to the forum... from the Flint Hills of Manhattan, Kansas!

Welcome from W Tn. There are apps and software that can resize your pictures and you can post your finds. Welcome to the hobby and HH

You have the bases covered. That silver umax will find everything 6+" or less in the ground. Further, 95% of our hobby is spent digging in that range!

Well played, sir... well played!

Harley, welcome aboard from central Massachusetts!

The stage fright goes away quick.

A great tool we use are the online maps.
