Equinox Depth Bug

I noticed this today - the depths level were no as correct as with the previous version - even once I got it out of the ground it was still showing a few bars down. I was advised on a Nox 800 owners web page that doing a Factory reset (Even thought its not in the update instructions) after the update sorts it out. I have done a Reset and will check it at the weekend but I think I will be rolling back to the last version

Let me know what happens, in case i might want to go to new version again. Thanks.

To be honest I’m just thinking of reverting back to the last version - I will only get a couple of hours on Saturday to go out (bad forecast for the weekend) and wait a while longer to see what happens with everyone else before updating it again.

No since i made this post,, on numerous other forums and FB groups it is a known issue with the update. Many many others are experiencing the same issue.

I used a NOX for the first time a couple of days ago, and the previous owner said it was updated to the latest version, and I experienced the same issue. Every target, including surface clad, showed max depth.

I posted on another forum and they said, -- oh you don't need the depth meter, just go by tone or sound or somesuch. I'm sorry, but when I buy a product, I want all of its features to work as expected.

That attitude is sort of like buying a car with a stick shift, and the clutch doesn't work, and people say -- oh you don't need a clutch, just shift by ear and by feel of the gear ratio. Yes, you can drive a stick this way without a clutch, but I'd rather have a working clutch.

I hope there is a fix for this. When I use a machine, I use every piece of information it gives me, not just sound. For me, it looks like the Nox may end up being an expensive door stop, as I do quite fine with the E-Trac.

Randy, so far for me anyway, i have had the most success with ver 1.7.5 and the depth at least for me works great. I go by tone first and then warble the coil for glimpses of the ID , even if jumpy , if you can get the high tone it usually is a masked target.

I have three Equinox detectors. All have been updated to version 3. I have used them all since the update and have used at least one of them everyday since then. I have not noticed any depth related issues on any of my detectors and I have dug hundreds of shallow, medium and deep coin sized targets since the update. My well established test garden targets are reading the same way they did before the update. So, this is a weird situation which I don't understand. Hopefully it will get straightened out soon for you guys. I guess I was lucky.

Or perhaps it only happens in conjunction with another setting set a particular way.

I can be a real dummy sometimes. I finally did a factory reset and now wish I had right after I did the upgrade. It was overdue BEFORE the upgrade but I didn't want to have to key in my coin program.....
Anyways, the machine got quiet and stable AND the depth indicator is working ok now too. I'm pretty excited, been out to pounded spots close to the house just Park 1 factory setting, noise cancel and go pulling coins where I though there were none. Nasty looking clad. Finally pulled a wheatie from my next door park last night, a deeep 1944. I knew there had to be some there! Can't wait to go hunt tomorrow morning.

The factory reset sounds right for fixing the issue only some have had.

There is NVM that stores setting and if the structure of the setting change between versions then all bets are off to how it will work.

The factory reset clears the setting and fills them with defaults so now all works as it should.
