Ears broken and now what?

For me, I would plastiweld it. There was someone on here that made 3D printed replacements.

Here is the picture of my destroyed coil

I thought someone printed up some that you could use in lieu of the ears being gone? I imagine someone can point you in the right direction on which one works well perhaps. Here's an example (I have no idea if this is a good one or not - but should lead your in a possible fix direction)

The support you have is not bad, but the injection molded (vs 3D printed) is better and only works when epoxied in place. Zip ties aren't going to hold. I have one of the injection molded ones very and what I did was when both ears snapped off, I super glued the ears back on then slathered the support in 2 part epoxy and clamped everything down. That was 2 years ago and it's still rock solid.

Did this but not in warranty anymore
I know PLENTY of people have busted the ears off their Equinox coils.
I’ve owned TWO 800s and have very close to a thousand hours on each machine using all the coils that were made for the 600/800 series detectors, under what I would consider average to heavy usage, and have not managed to even crack one ear on any of the coils. Are folks banging them into rocks or piles of wood or trees or something?
I’m not trying to shame you on your issue Bling, I’m just curious how these things are getting snapped off especially after reinforcements are put into place.

A coil stiffener is a decoration unless it is epoxied into place. The ears were never manufactured correctly to take hours of hard use. At the beach it is a fact they will break. Just a matter of when unless reinforced.

I could definitely see where beach and water hunting would be an issue…I guess just for my dry land hunting east of the Cascades even in sage brush and juniper I managed to keep from breaking them.

What myself and others have done is over tighten the coil bolt. You will see the ears bend in. I for one don't like a flopping coil. Prefer it to be stable. A slight bump at the wrong angle and the ears will snap.

Same here. I used my 800 from 2018 until last January. Never broke an ear. I did put a stiffener on it within a year to be on the safe side. Someone should 3D print the Manticore coil attachment setup and sell it to glue on broken Equinox coils.

I never had a problem with the ears breaking but I asked a Minelab repair guy at the repair center about the problem and he said that the broken coil ear problem was primarily with detectors who swing in the sand .
