I'm still very new to this, but I have done a lot of reading about it. I'm from MA, and its a very historic area, but compared to a lot of places MA is small. Anyway I have the stock LG28 coil, and its good. But I have seen a fair amount of videos favoring the LG24.
The LG24 seems to pinpoint better. I must say even with my stock coil sometime I get a great response only to not be able to find anything, even with my Garrett Pro pointer.
Being new I should probably just stick to stock and learn the Detector better, which is what I am doing, but I would like to start with every advantage I can get.
I'm mostly in it for the historical stuff, going down the beach just isn't my thing. So coins and relics would be what I was most interested in. Plus the salt air and ocean water don't treat anything you find very well.
One other thing is permissions, I was thinking of it from my viewpoint as a home owner. If someone asked to dig up my lawn to look for stuff I would probably just say no. So would you only ask permissions for mostly farm lands? I know of a school house property about 10 houses awy from where I live, but I don't think I would ever ask them If I could metal detect there, and I know it would have a lot of things there.
