May need to define this better?? is a hair brette with a fake stone junk jewelry?? a tiny little hat pin?? at what point does junk jewelry not count?? I have dug some tiny little POS stuff that would be considered Jewelry in a store but probally you or I would toss it into the trash straight away?

good point...jewelry will be defined as rings, necklaces, bracelets

RH, to voice my opinion on this thread so it has the chance to be seen, whatever the finalized scoring system is, make it a sticky, closed/locked thread so that it doesn't get lost and we can all refer to it during the four antagonizing months of watching teams combat each other.;)

Also, I think that all clad for vets and greenhorns should count a flat 1 point, no fraction crap. That gets very touchy in the addition and would lead to some discrepancies in the totals. (Oh, and zincolns should count, it's clad too) Just my .02 HH

:?: :?:

Thank god for excel spreadsheets

No kidding!! This is one scenario where setting all those formulas will come in handy for personal reasons, rather than for work. :D

I really love that program.

After reading this entire thread for the first time tonight, I gotta admit ...
I'm a little confused and it's easy to lose concentration in this topic.

My personal opinion, for what it's worth, is to keep it simple...

I won't even try to attempt to offer a suggestion for scoring,
because none of it is up to me.

But with all the suggestions, alterations, etc, offered in this string,
I think the point system should be completely laid out and finalized at the end of this string.

However you determine the points shall be granted will be honored by all participants, and it will be a blast to see how the members do.

For $5 bucks you don't even have to dig a coin and could win a metal detector. My kind of contest. ;)

so what you join then post your finds or do you have to meet up with your partner then the best finds win stuff?

so when is the deadline i may join depending on if i have enough money after purchasing my detector

I don't know about tokens? 10 points for a chucky cheese token? That is 40 clad coins for a greenhorn. Just something to think about. GL and HH

How bout a slight tweak on the nickels and make any pre-1946(war nickels and earlier) the same value as buffs, V's, etc? I look at the dates on the nickels I find and keep any older Jeff's, and I would say less than 1% are the "tweeners" (between a Buff and a War Nickel). The amount I'll find is negligible, so it won't make much difference, but a 1938 nickel having the same point value as a 2008?

And if you want to be a stickler for details, make the cents pre-1959 (first year of mem's) or I just may count my Canadian cents(non mem's!) I find :D
