so today i was working on honing my skills with my detector and really take my time on digging steady deep tones and i got two wheats lest then a foot apart under a bunch of trash at 6 to 7 inches. The first one was a 1934 that was hard to get a date off and the second one was a 1953 D. I was like a kid at christmas. I even yelled out OMG, YES, YES, YES, with people all around me to. I got a lot of crazy looks. hahaha. time to start again tomorrow to keep looking in the area to hopefully find my first silver. pics and video coming soon

I just started doing the same thing and in less than a week ive dug a 34 wheatie and 2 silvers, a 41 dime and a 43 walking liberty. I think the deep dig pays off. Keep on diggin and congrats on your finds.

Great job! You're definitely on the right track. Keep at it! It's there to find. More often than not the deeper, the older.

What kind of detector are you using?

I think DiggerNE nailed a very important aspect of detecting. I for one am guilty of just hoping for deeper, older finds but what do I do differently to achieve this? Nothing. I just roll with the solid signals I get and usually dig no deeper than 6" to my target. My point is that I believe every detector has tips, tricks, settings, swing speeds, etc that will get you deeper. Its just that we don't always focus on max depth when we are getting targets at 6" or less. Some detectors have whole books written about them to help you. My most eye-opening revelation for hitting deeper signals was using quality headphones. I never used them the first five years I detected. Just my thoughts. GL and HH, Matt

Dug up a 193? D again today in the same area. I got a 1967 dime at almost a foot deep too
