Craigslist Lost Ring Recovered....by ME!

I just thought $200 was a bit much for finding the ring. I guess I should have consulted everyone here for their opinion!

And, I'll need more than $200 to upgrade to a more expensive (not better:yes:) machine. I refuse to talk down about my Ace250! That would be bad luck!

I personally would just see it as a way to get quick cash to upgrade. I want to get an ACE 250 eventually and that may be the only way to do so. Stuck with a BH and it's not the greatest. I havent' even found any valuable items really yet. It is a service. But it's your choice to take whatever you feel comfortable with.

Your the Man

Rob that was a great story and you will have that great Karma for a long time. I found an add on craigs list and went looking for a Ladies Wedding band near me. I walked around an Oval Track dozens of times, pulling in Clad after clad (21.60 total) and still can't find that darn ring..but good for You.

Ya did great! And everyone ends up happy! You got reasonable pay, good karma, and were a credit to all MDers...and the fellow got his ring for half what he was willing to pay and a very positive opinion of folks in the MD hobby. A great run and story !

Well I met the owner today. Man this guy was HAPPY! I even had to back away from him a couple of times 'cause I thought he was gonna kiss me. (I ain't all that!:D) But a super strong handshake and big thank you was about it...until he just grabbed me and gave me a big hug. This guy's quite a bit bigger than myself...what could I do? He pulled out his wallet and gave me that reduced $100 reward. I still think that was a bit much, too!

Anyway, he then tells me that this ring was lost over 4 months ago and had posted that "lost ring" ad 4 different times on Craigslist. I thought it was only missing for 2 weeks or so.:wow: This guy got lucky.

Sorry about not getting a picture of the return. It kinda slipped my thinking at the time.

He did tell me that he's going to save my contact information in case anyone he knows ever loses something! But I'm gonna contact him in a couple of days after he calms down and try to pick his brain about possible hunting spots he or his family may have rights to. I'm sure I'll be given permission!

I think if someone is going to offer you a cash reward, you should take it.

They are going to go spend the money to buy a new one, or its priceless family jewelery so if they offer a little loot take it and say THANK YOU.

Remember to tell them to reference you in the future to anyone looking to recover lost jewelery..

I agree with keith, nothing wrong with taking a reward and don't feel guilty about it. The person is glad that it was returned and people with old time values will usually offer a reward for a good service. Not sur eif the youngsters know this but hopefully some of us are teaching these things.
