Wow, headed to my sisters farm today and hunted a hillside woods that is next to where an old road used to be. The road was heavily traveled back in WW2 to the local military post. Would have never thought to hunt there but it has a bunch of old sycamore trees that are carved so I though maybe some old silver and military relics. I hunted it previously and all I found was shotgun headstamps and rifle casings. Today was different. 5 minutes there and I dig a 5 cent NCO club token from Ft Meade Md. A couple minutes later second hole dug out pops a worn British copper. Never expected that. No more than 5 feet away I get a 54-55 on the Legend and low and behold 2" down is a 1793 Flowing hair wreath LC!! Didn't stay much longer as I want to grid it out another day with a buddy. Also found a 41 wheatie on the way out.

When I first joined the forum, and before I knew of your relationship with LCs (or should I say lack-there-of lol), I mentioned to someone that almost all of the LCs I find, are so worn or corroded, that I throw them in the garbage. Someone replied with, "Tom is going to have a meltdown"

Actually, the area was very active in the Indian wars with numerous fort sites in the area.

It's funny how often good stuff is found in the least likely place, and how often we get skunked in a place that we thought would really produce.

From now on, I'm just going to go out, throw a rock, and hunt wherever it lands! :)
I hear ya. The sites that I think are going to be good usually blow.

Come on stetam, you're in PA... you should ALWAYS expect coppers!! The picture you posted of the woods looks like it's right in copper alley! Great finds
