sorry, I can't help you with the frost. All the frost down here only gets on the cars and top of the grass 
as for the larger coil, I've been using one for about 3 months. The larger coil does pinpoint different than the smaller one. On mine the pinpoint sweet spot is right in front of the where the shaft and the coil are connected. not at the front of the coil like with the smaller one. hope these helps and good luck at that old house. and remember, we love pics..
