This morning is New Years day and the wife decided to do something that I would like for a change.

Well I thought what a nice way to start 2019! She said lets go to that farm where you are hunting and I can look at the horses. She grew up with her own horse that her daddy bought her.

Off we go, it is a short 20 minute drive. It was overcast but not quite raining yet. We get there and after driving down the long single lane gravel road to the farm we find the gates closed with a closed sign on the gates. Closing a farm on New Years day?

Well I had to backup for about 500 yards since we have had rain on and off for the past week I wouldn’t dare turn my SUV around off the gravel road. But the backup camera came in handy.

Keep in mind in north Atlanta you have to pass thousands of stores to get anywhere. On our way back home, she yelled, stop turn around! I thought I must have hit someone or some critter. But I had merely passed a discount furniture store.

So I turn the SUV around on my special day and we go into Ballard Designs. They are having a New Years Day sale. I swear if I could find silver coins like she can spot a sale sign on a store while driving 55 miles per hour my silver count would beat anyone’s on this forum.

As usual she shops (or I should say buys things) and I stand around wondering what to do with this sudden and unexpected chunk of free time. I am looking out the store window down onto several strip shopping centers. I see oh, I don’t know about a hundred stores with about 75% of them that my wife would be interested in spending money in them.

But what I don’t see is a single store selling metal detectors. In fact in all of Atlanta you will not find one single metal detecting store. You now one where you could see different models of detectors from Minelab, Garrett, Tesoro, Whites, Fisher etc? You know the type of store where you could pick them up and turn them on and hear them beep? And staffed with knowledgeable sales associates like they have at Kellyco that actually are detectorists. Well there is Walmart where you can buy a Bounty Hunter Jr. I know, bought one there for my grandson.

Then it just dawned on me, we males especially ones with a hobby called metal detecting are in the largest minority category there is for a human on this planet.

Our wives can literally drive down the street and turn in any random strip mall or major shopping center and have hundreds of stores in which they can spend their and their husband’s money.
It ain’t fair I tell you! How did we as husbands allow this to happen over the years?

On my special trip “just for me” we visited three stores and my sweet wife spent over $400 on her purchases. She of course pointed out to me her somewhat ignorant husband with little experience in economics 101 how much money we saved. I don’t know how she figures that. Our checking account is now $400 lower and not one dime was put in our savings account, so HOW DID WE ACTUALLY SAVE ANY MONEY?

Next time I will know better. When she offers to go out and do something I like to do, I will darn well know what she as in mind as she is looking out the car window. This comes from the same wife who said we cannot afford $239 plus $15 in shipping charges for my new Nox 15 inch coil. She says that I never find much anyway what is a couple of more inches going to do for me?

LOL!!!! At least I'm not the only one who has a wife that can save us hundreds of dolllars a month and still only have and empty checking account at the end of the day. Not to worry though, the following spring or summer we recoup at least 10-15% or what she spent on the stuff by selling it a a yard sale...
