anywhoooooo......Big congrats again.

Appreciate the looks and comments everyone! Really liking the 9x12 concentric coil on the Gold VS. The 5x8 in that big field. Might have been the difference that day, here's a couple more photo's. Can't stop looking at it  happy hunting!

Dang that coin is in good condition too, I'd say spectacular! Congrats! Maybe there is hope for me then but it is discouraging sometimes. Yesterday evening I pulled 28 coins out of basically one hole. All zinc pennies! DOH!

Nice!

I finally got to mark the Capped Bust off my bucket list a few years ago. I know you guys from the east aren't so impressed with a Capped Bust, but us guys in Kansas find it quite a rare item beings Kansas wasn't even a state until 1861.

Luckily the Indians kept my area busy since Coronado came through in 1541. Came close many times with a 1939 seated half dime and a 1841 seated dime but never thought I'd get that Capped. A few years ago hunting the site of an old fort, Fort Mann (1845-1847) I found it. A nice 1835 half dime. The one I use for my Avatar.

Im on the east coast and Ive found dozens of colonial silvers including a piece of a Pine Tree shilling and a 1670s French 4 sol and Ive only got 1 capped. A bunch of 1830s and 40s seated but only one capped. I doubt there are many east coasters with more than a few.

Congrats, Jeff, on your oldest U.S. silver! :woot: What an incredible find! Nice job on the other old coinage, too, as well as the lovely .925 ring. It's good to see you posting some finds!

I dont know anyone with more than one, two of my buddies have hit capped half dimes, mine is the first dime. We have seen pistateens and cobs more frequently than capped busts. Definitely some rare coins, but didn't they melt a bunch of the early US silver coins down at some point? Ill bet that has alot to do with their scarcity. I keep wondering in my head, out of the millions of capped bust coins (draped bust included and flowing hair too), how many could really be left?

Thank you all for the comments! I really hate to see this coin just sit around, wish there was something I could do with it in terms of restoration and presentation. I'm not cleaning it though, and not sure its worth enough to be professionally cleaned, so I guess it will sit in the 2x2 holder until I die  good luck out there everyone!
