Back On The Hunt Gets A $5 Gold Piece !

so you was on a road trip out of state. what part of derango was you in. share the wealth.
like fl-hunter said there could be more. let some other md'er have a chance of a life time. truly nice coin. it dissevers a display of all its own.

Awesome find! A big congratulations to you! Go get that sucker appraised, maybe slabbed and please give us updates if you do that!! Again, what an awesome find!

Many Thanks for all the nice compliments

I like to say that Vaquero MD is more like an advanced high tech with old school knobs and switches equipment.

The settings are easy, threshold just ON in All Metal Mode, Sensitivity to 7-8, Ground Balance, then switch to Disc mode (iron), start hunting !

When I detected the gold coin, the sound just seemed normal (using a headset) for a coin like object.

I think the pin point for the Vaquero is just GREAT. Although there is a Pinpoint button feature, I find just "X-ing" over the target will locate it in the circle of the search coil.

In the meantime, I found out this 1881 $5 gold coin, in its condition, is considered a "common date" coin and therefore is basically worth gold bullion value and at a 1/4 ounce content, it is worth about $300.

BTW, Yes !! I did try to find the owner of the gold coin but ran into a dead end after searching for about a second

Nice find! Maybe you could send your story into the manufacturer of your machine, and see if they will publish it and possibly pay you for it like "whites electronics" does.
