I can see a diamond pattern peeking through the crust that’s all I could identify off of it.

Man, you have better eyes than I have. All I can see peeking through the crust is more crust. Is it brass or copper? It almost looks like the base of a brooch, and the hole in the middle is where possibly a stone or emblem was located. Really no clue, but a cool find. :waytogo:

It is pretty oval so I could definitely see a brooch

As Hosre asked is it copper or brass?
The hole looks like it was hammered thru with a nail? I found a half cent that the hole looked just like that. Could yours be a very old hammered copper coin that some one put a hole in it?

I think it is copper, and it definitely seems like it’s been hammered the only thing is the hole has a raised rim on either side so I don’t know if it was punched through or not

That is an "Iron Eye of Fate" talisman. Once you look at it you are cursed with bad fortune. The owner probably accidentally glanced at it while removing it from it's protective leather pouch while he was being robbed, dropped it on the ground as he tripped on a particle of sand and landed face first onto a rock while his coin pouch flew out of his pocket into the robber's hand.

Unfortunately for you, now that you have looked at it, your luck at Metal Detecting and Fishing is right out the window. All you will find detecting from now on is aluminum cans, pull tabs and nails. If you fish please stay away from water bodies and boats.
