Am I nuts or what????

Try taking them to another bank!

Run them through the change sorter at the grocery store!

Give 'em to kids at the mall to throw in the fountain!

Thanks everyone, those are some great ideas! KT is thinking about making up 3 jars of them to leave at random spots in the Galveston area!:lol: That will get rid of a few pounds of em anyway.

By the way, how long do you soak them in vinegar and salt water to get them looking that clean....and what the heck do you do with the really rotten ones...those that are really pieces of pennies, mt_vertcaver?????

I put a batch of pennies in a jar, covered with vinegar, and added a tablespoon of salt. Shook them a few times over 1/2 hour or so. Drained and rinsed several times with water.

It did surprisingly well, even on the bad ones. I don't know what I'll do with the Coinstar rejects.

Wow! These are some great ideals if I ever get in that same situation.

I'd nix the glass jars at the beach idea...they'll probably eventually shatter and then you've got the possibility of sharp glass ending up on the beach. I'd maybe bury them in a park somewhere! :D

Clad for Kids? :?:

I originally thought of clad for Kids, but these are so bad that I doubt they could deposit them...I can not seem to! LOL

I am going to try the vinegar and salt cleaning and those that are only partial coins will get jar buried somewhere....Might not put them on the beach afterall....don't want to get anyone cut from broken glass! Maybe find a park with a big tree and bury some around the roots!:lol::lol:

put them in tupperware for the beach
find a different bank my bank takes them all i put them in ziplock bags 5$ at a time and take one in every month
threw 2 away out of 4000 that were barely recognizable the rest they take no questions asked

I cleaned mine yesterday with vinegar and salt.(DON'T do this with any pennies you consider "good" OR your clad.)

Coinstar should take most of them now.

Wow! your zilcolns sure look pretty. I clean mine but the machine won't take any that have badly chewed up edges, which is about 60% of the zinc pennies I find.
