Thanks for your replies everyone. Yep, cladius, summer is almost over. The air has gotten chillier, and now I've got the heater on all the time! Also, entry into some of the old gold fields areas northwest of us are closing for the winter months, in 3 weeks, so that's all the time we have to finish exploring a chinese settlement we've been working on. But at least we'll have the north east to explore! Can't wait.

Very nice finds, Ang.
I've always loved that coin that has the gladiator-type guy down on one knee, and holding his shield upright. The first time I seen one (Canadian) I thought the guy was in a wheelchair! )
With your summer coming to a close, this is a good time to catagorize your finds in a database if you haven't yet. Someday, you'll most likely wish you did... with "date found" an' "place found" in there, for sure.
My wife and I have been doing that for a long time now... with columns to say which was my or her find, too.

Hello all, I've been detecting this area known to have once had Chinese occupation. The good thing about it is, no one's ever detected there! Also found a third chinese ceremonial oven. In the history books there's mention of only two in existence, one hidden in the blackberries, the other was destroyed by roadworks. But this 3rd oven, well that's a find! So I've popped in a photo of it, and of some of the coins I found over a couple of days. The coins were found in the vicinity of this oven. I've since gone back a few times and found a few more. The earliest coin dates back to 1621.
