Not a bad year, considering fewer trips to grocery stores and a general lessening of Coinstar use by the public, due probably to the pandemic.

Of the 191 coin total for 2020, 101 of those were from one haul in January.

Here's the breakdown and a few pics:

U.S. Coins (131 total for $5.87 face value)
- 9 Clad quarters
- 28 clad dimes
- 5 Jefferson nickels
- 83 Memorial cents
- 2 Silver Roosevelt dimes (1951 & '52)
- 2 Wheat cents (1945 & '48)
- 2 1943 'Steel' cents

Foreign Coins (60 total from 14 countries. I count the Euro coins as from one country even though several countries are represented in the 24 Euro coins)

Non-coins
- 2 plastic play coins (U.S. dime & quarter)
- 1 guitar pick
- 1 Guardian Angel - Protect Me token
- 2 buttons
- 1 train-flattened Memorial cent
- 1 Boston MBTA 'T' trolley token (now obsolete)

Good going on the Coinstar finds for 2020. Oddly enough, your wheat cent totals are an exact duplicate of mine......4 wheats and two of them are 1943 steels.

Very well detailed and congrats on a good Coinstar year !

Interesting what things can be found in a Coinstar reject tray.

Coinstar reject tray hunting - a minor side hobby for detectorists

Hey, I've had a few good hauls from our local Coinstar, I didn't keep a running total for the year, only think I posted about the better hauls so the times I got one or just a few coins would not be counted. I only save the older coins and foreign coins.

Thanks Ed... I hope Tom_In_CA doesn't see this, or he'll know what we've been up to (mailing our Coinstar Wheaties and Steelies around to other "East of the Mississippi" Coinstar harvesters to post in our year-end totals) :giggle:.

good show!!!! nice presentation

curious... are these finds in the little cubby hole like coin return on drink machine? i have only seen a couple pennies and 1 dime in the ones i go by, and they are high traffic.. wally world and super Krogers grocery stores.

or is there an internal tray or do you lift up the basket on the hinge? we are not in the same areas so i am not competition here in mid state Georgia-- the armpit of the South... as its turning... lot of poverty dwindling middle class. signs everywhere coin shortage. i know my bank tellers and the locals stopped coinroll hunting due to shortages and the tellers say they dont see silver coins.. just those susan b and presidential , sacagewa junkers...

Thanks Gary.

Did you ever go to Coinstar's web site to to use their [FIND A KIOSK] tool? You plug in your address or Zip Code and it will list the various ones in your area and tell you the mileage from you. I have 10 of them within 5 miles of me.

I don't think he'll even notice because he's too busy worrying about the "East Coast Coppers".

Yes dixiedigger. You are correct. It is the reject tray at the front of the machine, down about knee-level. That lone dime you might see there could be a silver Rosie or Merc (or better). Can't say I've ever seen a report on this forum of a Barber or Seated dime from a Coinstar. I HAVE gotten silver Washington quarters though and one 1964 silver Kennedy Half.

Thanks Jim, yep, I have seen that web site before but it has been a while since I tried it, so I just tried it again and my local Coinstar is 2 miles away, then the next closest one is 12 miles away, after that one the next closest one is 17.5 miles away and so on.

Hey, we live in a fairly small town about 20-25 miles from the nearest large city, we really like the advantages of living in a small town in a semi-rural area (especially less traffic), but the (acceptable) trade-off is some larger stores like Lowes and Walmart being far away, and of course being in a one Coinstar town

On the bright side, I noticed some of the further away Coinstars are at Food Lion grocery stores so that hopefully should mean when our local Bilo grocery store (where our local Coinstar is at) turns into a Food Lion I would think the Coinstar most likely will stay, so I'll be able to more easily continue my Coinstar reject tray side hobby in our one Coinstar town
