1862 S seated half

Way to go Tom. It's got some great detail on it! Better than the beach-toast Seated Half I found in Washington a couple weeks ago. Keep up the good work!

thanx Washingtonian. Yes very rare to get numismatically redeemable coins off the wet-salt beach. But .... I never get tired of beach-kissed-blackened silver

Where’s MY Seated half??? It seems EVERYONE is finding them, and with no effort at all! :cool3: Love it Tom, the other pile is damn cool too. There’s an entire story in there somewhere...

Yes, the age-indicator "woulda-coulda's" always paint a picture of life-back-then. Lanterns, toe-taps, lots of guns they must've been carrying and shooting, etc....

Very Cool I've yet to dig a seated quarter or Half got allot dimes... Congrats

Mike K "Ohio"

Your bucket-lister seated half is sure to come. But .... since you're east of the Mississippi, I'm sorry to inform you it will be a "P" mint. So sorry :sissyfight:

Must be nice living on the left coast finding gold coins and seated halves like clad while I’m sitting here in va lucky to find a wheatie! ...

Huh ? Lucky to find a wheatie ? In VA ?? Surely you are mistaken. Based on what I read of show & tell posts there, you ought to be digging LC's hand over fist, eh ?

That's an awesome coin Tom and glad your research paid off. That is one of the few coins I have yet to find. Nice going!

You're mostly doing turf. And Los Angeles area growth spurt wasn't till ... what .... the 1920s through the '50s. And your parks that are older than that tend to be in the blighted parts of towns, eh ? Thus yes, gonna be hard to get a seated half in CA park turf. So head on out to relicky sites in the deserts and hills east of you, for a chance at the seateds and such.

Awesome finds Tom !!

Would love to know your secret for researching old stage stops.. I have TRIED to find any old maps, schedules etc.. in my area Jackson County Oregon but have yet to find any useful information.

GREAT Finds !!

Thanx So-Oregon-Md. I have said it many times, but will repeat again : One of the big tricks for me, to locate sites (and get "in's") is: To become involved as a docent at your local historical museums and historical societies. Then you will brush shoulders with persons in-the-know. You'll develop "names to drop". You'll have access to white glove archives, etc...

Love the Seated Tom!!

Very nice.

Wow! Nice find, Tom! :woot:

Bad ass as usual!

Ron, Mike, Wolf-dog, and Chris, thanx for enjoying the find with me !

Yep those s mint half’s on the east coast 😡

SSeeeooo sorry that you don't get too many key date S mints over there. My heart just bleeds for you guys !

WOW !! Congrats Tom !! You don't post finds that often but when you do it's an earth shaking event . Bravo !

Thanx for coming along for the ride soil-surgeon. Yeah I only post if it's something cool. Eg.: gold coin, seated half, reale, bust, etc... On this same trip, at a park stop during this business trip, I had an 1881 IH, a merc, some wheaties, etc....

Other people post their show & tell no matter what (wheaties, clad, etc..). That's fine.

No Seated Half for you :p

(You'll get one soon enough I'm sure, especially with your methodology. :D)

Killer find Tom, one might say "sick"

Awesomeness from Mr California! Trade ya my LC plus a half eaten tuna sandwich

Nice "S" mint Seated, a great find, love the old coins you pull down there in Cali!

Big Congrats. That is a very nice find. I would love to find one of those, bet you had a big smile on your face when you unearthed that beauty!

Charlie, Loves-shiny, and yooper, thanx for coming along !

You probably thought you had an LC. Haha. Tom she's a beauty, looks great with the tarnish, it gives her character. Congrats on the half and all the other cool digs. HH Mark

Haha, I actually thought I had one of those large iron pieces (cast iron, etc...) that over-rides the disc. and comes in as silver dollar or half-dollar signal. So I thought I was about to dig junk. Doh !

That's a good one there for sure....congrats!

great find there Tom. old stage stops are always interesting to hunt.
Jeff

Jeff & Jak, thanx for the kind comments !

Obviously some great research and the rewards from the the effort. Congrats Tom on yet another oldie with the Seated Half and some history to boot. Trapper

I must have been distracted because I didn't realize it was a HALF!

Ffft! Yowza! Congrats. Nice work.
Thoroughly jealous and proud, as always :)

Thanx for sharing in the hunt fellas !

sick, sick, sick:sissyfight:
West Coast lies!

Congratulations on your latest coinstore purchase...

Ahhh, c'mon matmit, what have I ever done to deserve this ? I mean ... seriously ... would I ever rib or accuse east coast guys of fish tales ? Huh ? Huh ?

Actually I just noticed another member in California "found" a seated half this week...
Now I have to go back and look, because I am sure they will be the same year.

Wow Tom! That nice big half didnt see a lot of pocket time at all! I suspect it was an 1865 drop during the well known 'Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County' Contest!... Probably lost by a guy with limited intellect of amphibian identity! Probably the guy was from Oregon...

I knew a guy from MN who brought a Tiger salamander to a blue tailed skink lizard race in MO once...We all laughed! Thats what I think is the origin of your find you got here.....The damn guy brought a toad to a frog jump!! Lost his nice Half Dollar in a bet and the forthcoming fisticuffs!

Thats the thing with reptiles and amphibians, you cant trust them to perform on command...

A few things for a guy to know to get by in Life....."Never bring a salamander to a lizard race, never bring a toad to a frog jump, or a copperhead to a kingsnake convention"... and, first and foremost, "A lady must always know when to leave a party"...

His was a '71 S. We had the "presence of mind" to remember to apply photo-shop to our half, when it changed hands between us. SSSsshhh, this will be our little secret. Ok ?

Ha! Didnt you say in another thread you were stopping in the Sacramento area for "business" yesterday? Hmmmmmmmm, Please tell me you didnt find that in my neck if the woods. If so you owe me 30%...

Great find! As soon as I get a Barber half off my bucket list, I'll think about getting a seated half. Unfortunately, the spots I detect only have the occasional large cent! I guess there were a lot of poor farmers living here back in the 1800's.

Holy smokes ! A seated half!!!!!!!!
Way to go Tom 👍
Incredible save .
You post it and act like I do when I find a Washington quarter . 🤔
I’d be jacked up and bouncing off the walls.
