which model is currently selling the best?

Some folks evidently don’t understand the benefit of multi freq, especially multi IQ. It is not a hoax. I promise.

If it were I would ditch EQX in a second.

Original poster posed the question that probably the Equinox was the current best selling detector and implied within that was is it the best selling mid-level detector. Others went a few steps further and challenged whether the Equinox was even a very good detector..............

This kind of question is fun as long as it stays factual and doesn't develop into opinions and brand loyalty. Oh well.

Well it was an "obvious" shot at any other machine other than the equinox. The OP mentioned the equinox more than a couple times, and how its being posted about more than any other brand. That's easy to understand, it just came out, ill bet Andy sabisch probably still has questions about the equinox  You guys need to get out more, you can't find ANYTHING sitting on the forums fighting about who's detector is best  good luck out there!

I don't know about the holy grail stuff, Wood, but I'm enjoying your 600...and it was a pleasure dealing with you!

For over 8 years the AT Pro was either my primary or co-primary machine with the CZ-3D. It's an efficient, honest detector that seldom lies about ferrous targets.

But since I first used the Nox this July, I haven't been back to the AT and I sold the cz-3d. Why? Because the Equinox is deeper, separates better, and is lighter. The cz-3d was a sweet machine certified at 12" and I hated to end the affair, but my rotator cuff said it's her or me!

To answer your question: Yes, I'm finding more than before. In the short time I've had the Nox I've found a significantly higher number of silver and old coins per hour than I was finding with the AT Pro or the CZ-3D and I'm definitely digging more deep coins than in the past. And this is despite being nowhere near the proficiency I have with the AT or the CZ.

Of course there are going to be detectorists like yourself, Wood, that don't click with the Nox. Nothing wrong with that. I've had detectors that certain skilled detectorists raved about that I just couldn't mesh with. Sometimes I couldn't get with the audio, sometimes I didn't like the interface. Or the detector wasn't well suited for how and where I detect or my left-handedness. And good thing the Nox isn't yellow. No way I'm using a yellow detector, ever...;)

The Nox is far from a perfect detector, but the performance is there for me so I'm quite satisfied.

I used the AT Pro for 3 years and loved it. At the time it was the best bang for the buck in my opinion and thus why I bought it. Was very happy with it from the start. Not a bear to learn.

March 2018 saw me caught up with the Nox hype so bought the 800. It was a bear for me to learn due to my backwards approach of learning the Nox.

It was not love at first sight or second or third. I had a difficult time learning it for many reasons. One I was not experiences with Minelab and had gotten kind of lazy with my AT Pro. Even though I have been metal detecting since 1988 I never really studied the art and science of metal detecting.

Plus I was trying to learn it in a very, very trashy public park along the river and it took a while for me to understand why and how to quiet down the 800 without affecting its performance.

The 800 force me to really learn a lot more about the theories about metal detecting. Great help from the various MD forum especially Vferrari.

Finally I am at a point where I "Get" the 800 and am 100% confident in its abilities and my abilities using the 800. But it took the better part of a year to get to that point. Not the 800's fault, but my own. Biggest mistake was not just grabbing the 800 and hunting in the standard modes. I tried to master too many of the advanced features too soon.

My advice to new 800 users is stick to standard modes and learn in the field.
The AT Pro will always retain its place in metal detecting history books. And the Equinox will be replaced by another make and model in the future. That is just the way it is.

Minelab makes quality machibes, always have..And they face the same struggles every other company does when releaseling a new unit,, always bugs and build issues to work out..
I do not think the at pro is perfect, nor is it the best.i use alot of other machines that are way better in alot of ways.
.But the original question was the #1 seller and imo it's still the at pro today, Garrett just branded and marketed that machine to the wall..Thats the reason I say it's the #1 seller, not because it's better than anything else in sales today.

You think the AT pro is outselling either equinox models right now? Not sure I believe that, I dont even think the AT max is anywhere close...this is TODAY as in 2019, not lifetime sales we are talking here I thought? I think I should add, I do NOT own an equinox

What makes you think outside of these forums anyone knows the equinox exist? I doubt any big box stores carry it,and most people google what they want ..Nothing against the equinox but it don’t even come up in the top 10 in a google search..So,let us know why you think it’s a top seller?

They are everywhere, all over the forums AND outside the forums, YouTube, etc... Almost everyone I know has one, and if they don't, either had one, or want one. IMHO, right now October 6th, 2019, the equinox is #1 selling. I don't particularly like the equinox, but it is clearly working for many other's. Ill stick with my FBS and Garrett though :cool3:

Thanks for the reply,I was wondering..I base my opinion because we live in the google world, and the equinox doesn’t come up when searching for the top 5 or 10 metal detectors..I actually do a lot of talking with people i see in different areas of Pennsylvania metal detecting cause I work in several different counties, and I have yet to find any who belong to any forums,or swing a equinox..Most common I see are the Etrac,3030 and at pro..

I could be 100% wrong, just stating my opinion, based on what I have seen, whether on the forums or not. They might even be more popular at the ocean than on land, which might be why you dont see as many inland. Seems the beach hunters are doing very well with them too. Either way, I think the simplex will be #1 in no time at this rate  All that performance for that price? Pretty unbelievable really...

That simplex is gonna knock off not only competitors but also alot of makros existing machines as well,, I think.lol..i would definatly try one at that price when they are released

Wow.... you sound like a bunch of old women arguing over who make the better fruit cake :lol: :sissyfight:
That's funny, because I thought "fruit cake" was a pseudonym for an "old women"?

Just to make a point, if you are using this as a standard to the best detectors I doubt this is a true indicators. I own 11 detectors. 9 of them were purchased USED ad those purchases would not have been included. There’s a lot of used equipment for sale.

Plus many people have exactly what they want and need. A new tangled machine may excite some while others don’t want to spend the money to buy something with “new” options that often are minimally an improvement. Also the time spent becoming familiar with new VDI, techniques and more. If it helps find a few more pull tabs, who cates?

Would I like a nw Equinox 800? Sure. IF IT WAS FREE. Otherwise, I’m good.

The original poster asked what detector is selling the most.
At pro used to be my best seller but know I sell 29 EQ for every one Atpro.
I’ll sell any detector it’s my job but the EQ has been a real easy sell here in FL. Seems it’s salt water performance is a important selling point.

This is real info not fake news.

Thanks TNS. Well, at least it was close. ;)

You are welcome.
The salt water capability of the Nox models accompanied by high coastal population as well as tourist that visit, makes EQX models hard to compete with sales numbers wise. Pure common sense here.

Think about this.
Even if inland detectorist, let’s presume At Pro/At Max were dead even with EQX model sales. This if it were true would still mean EQX leads by a MILE in sales nation wide in USA.
And look at other countries.
Their biggest populations for the most part are where?
On the coastal areas just like USA.

EQX models might even break records for mid priced detector models sold worldly. May already have. For say first 2 years they were available.
Maybe the dropping out of the airplane worked.
Minelab knew good and well what they had before they dropped it out of plane.
Why they did it.
