holding out hope for an American brand to bring a flagship detector to the game
I am.

I don't mind making the adjustments to emulate American-designed metal detectors out of the imports, but I do think the American-made detectors work quite well with factory programs, for the most part. I don't hunt beaches so I can't comment on how they compare in a beach environment, but I do think they, American-made, are a bit more stable and pleasing to use. At least for me.

If it weren't for the ergonomics of the Deus, I'd be swinging an AT Pro.

The AT Pro was a great detector and still is. I would recommend any newbie on a budget to consider an used AT Pro. Very easy to learn. Basically turn on and go with just a few options.
