The sun came out this afternoon so I decided to head out detecting for an hour after work. I went to a homesite close by that I've been to a few times. I had already found a silver spoon in really great shape as well as a 1857 Bank of Upper Canada penny and a 1891 Indian Head cent (which was my first being up here in Canada). The pine needles are really thick at this location so signals are a bit quieter than usual. Luckily that didn't stop me from finding this beauty! My first 1800s silver coin! An 1880 Canadian quarter in amazing shape! I've been detecting for a little over a year now but I'm not sure I'll ever be able to top this one!

If anyone has information about this coin or knows it's value I'd love to hear about it! So ecstatic to have finally reached this milestone! A priceless find to me :D

Also, if anyone is interested, I actually recorded the dig for fun before realising what it was:

1880 Narrow O

Congrats on the coin! Don’t clean it.
Looks like a 1880 Narrow O. About Extra Fine (XF) with environmental damage.
Depends on the market...the coin could pull $$$.
Need a clearer/closer pic of the date.
Need a clearer/closer pic of the V on Victoria. Does the V look like an inverted A?

Hey! I made sure not to clean it. Just gave it a gentle rinse under water for 30 seconds to get the mud off. Here are the close up picks you requested. It does look like an inverted A. I couldn't tell by eye balling it but when zooming in as far as I could using my camera you can see a definite line through the V. Is this rare or common for the coin?

Thanks for the kind words everyone! :D

A over V 1880 Canadian Quarter

You do have the Narrow O. The wide O is rarer, but with this coin it really doesn’t matter. Your rarity with the A over V....push you from $$$ to $$$$. Congrats!!!

I dealt in US coinage, but we did keep an eye out for key dates and rarities from other countries. **This one is not my specialty...I will say, get more than one second opinion on this one if your looking to sell. Don’t rush your decision!!
