Hello all, I pulled this from the earth today and wanted a little help identifying it. My impression is that it's a lamp, but I've never seen a lamp like this. Does anyone here have any idea what it is or when it's from? Unfortunately I'm pretty sure I cracked the glass when I was getting it out of the ground. Thank you in advance for your help!

It's a drip oiler alright, and It actually seems to be in reasonably restorable condition. Believe it or not, they still sell replacement Corning Glass cylinders in various sizes for those things for just a few bucks, so don't feel too bad that you may have dinged it bringing it back into the light. You may not have a Hit & Miss engine tirelessly running an irrigation pump for your "Back Forty", but my hunch is cleaned up that thing might make for a novel "Steampunk" on-demand chain oiler for some old motorcycle.

If you want to see a fellow who clearly knows what he's doing strip down and fix up one of these elderly gizmos, just check this out: https://youtu.be/qT9jR1MhkjI
